Warning Lights You Should Never Ignore in Your Pakistani Car

Don't Ignore Your Dashboard

Many Pakistani drivers treat warning lights as decorations — until they're stranded on M-2 with steam pouring from the bonnet. Here's your complete guide.

Red Warning Lights — Stop Immediately

Engine Oil Pressure Light (Oil Can Symbol)

Action: Pull over immediately and turn off the engine. Do NOT continue driving — engine seizure can happen within 30 seconds.

Engine Temperature Light (Thermometer)

Action: Pull over, turn off AC, turn ON heater (pulls heat from engine). Never open the radiator cap when hot.

Battery Light

Action: Turn off non-essential electrics. Drive directly to a workshop. Don't turn off the engine — it may not restart.

Yellow Warning Lights — Attend Soon

Check Engine Light

Could be minor (loose fuel cap) or serious. Get fault codes read with an OBD-II scanner at any good workshop.

Tyre Pressure Light (TPMS)

Check all tyre pressures at the nearest petrol station.

ABS Light

Your brakes still work but ABS will not activate during emergency stops. Get wheel speed sensors checked.

Pakistani-Specific Warning Signs

  • Clutch slipping (smell + RPM rising without acceleration): Rs 15,000–35,000 to replace
  • Burning smell from brakes after mountain driving: Stop and let cool 10 minutes
  • Steering pulling to one side after potholes: Wheel alignment disturbed — Rs 1,500–3,000 to fix
