Monsoon Car Care: Protect Your Vehicle in Pakistan's Rainy Season

Pakistan's Monsoon and Your Car

From July to September, Pakistan's monsoon season turns roads into rivers overnight. Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar see flash flooding that causes serious vehicle damage. A little preparation goes a long way.

Pre-Monsoon Checklist

Tyres

Check tread depth — you need at least 3mm for wet roads. Bald tyres on wet Lahore roads are an accident waiting to happen.

Wiper Blades

Replace wiper blades if they streak or skip. Pakistan's UV-intense summers destroy rubber. Bosch Aerotwin and Denso wiper blades are excellent choices.

Brakes

Wet roads increase stopping distances by 30–40%. Have brake pads and discs checked before monsoon.

Battery

Humidity and rain corrode battery terminals. Clean white powdery deposits with a wire brush.

During Monsoon: Driving Safety

  • Never drive through water you can't see the bottom of — even 30cm can hydrolock your engine (repair: Rs 80,000–400,000)
  • Follow the car ahead at double normal distance on wet roads
  • If your car floods: Do NOT try to start it. Call a recovery truck.

After Monsoon: Recovery Care

  • Wash the undercarriage to remove mud that traps moisture and causes rust
  • Check all drain holes in door sills
  • Apply WD-40 to door hinges and exposed metal joints
