Most Pakistani motorcycles (CD 70, CG 125, YBR 125) use drum brakes front and rear — simple, reliable, and easily serviced at any roadside workshop. Modern sports bikes (CB 150F, YZF R15) use disc brakes that offer superior stopping power but require slightly more attention.
Park on level ground. Apply the front brake lever fully and try to push the bike forward — the wheel should lock. Same test for rear brake. If the wheel doesn't lock with full lever/pedal pressure, adjustment or replacement is needed.
At the end of the brake cable (front) or brake rod (rear), there's an adjustment nut. Tighten to take up slack in the lever/pedal. Most bikes also have a wear indicator mark on the brake arm — when the pointer aligns with the mark, shoes are worn out.
Do not delay brake maintenance. Pakistan's roads require frequent emergency braking — at speed bumps, animals crossing, and rickshaws stopping suddenly. Worn brakes are the leading cause of serious motorcycle accidents. A complete brake shoe set costs Rs 300–600. A hospital bill costs much more.
