The chain on your motorcycle transfers every bit of engine power to the rear wheel. Neglect it, and you'll spend Rs 1,500–4,000 replacing a chain and sprocket set every 10,000 km instead of the potential 25,000–30,000 km with proper care.
The chain should deflect 15–25mm when pressed at the midpoint of the lower run. Too tight strains the engine output shaft bearings. Too loose can jump off sprockets over bumps.
Try to lift the chain away from the rear sprocket at the 3 o'clock position. If you can see more than half a tooth worth of space, replace chain and sprocket set together.
