Pakistani summers are brutal — temperatures regularly reach 45°C in Sindh and South Punjab, and car engines already run hot. Add Karachi's standstill traffic or Lahore's rush hour, and you have a recipe for overheating, battery failure, and tyre blowouts. Prepare now.
Check: Coolant level in reservoir (between MIN and MAX), colour (should be green/blue, not brown/rust), and the radiator cap seal.
If overdue: Flush and replace coolant (Rs. 1,500–3,000) and check radiator for leaks
Warning sign: Temperature gauge climbing above normal — stop immediately, do not drive with overheating engine
Check for blocked fins (insects, plastic bags), leaks, and that the radiator fan operates at idle when AC is on.
Radiator flush cost: Rs. 1,500–3,500 | Fan motor replacement: Rs. 3,000–8,000
Have AC gas pressure checked. Recharge if needed. Clean condenser and replace cabin filter. Summer without working AC in Pakistan is a genuine health risk.
Heat is the #1 battery killer. A battery that marginal starts in winter often fails completely in summer. Most batteries last 2–3 years in Pakistan's heat.
Load test at any workshop: Free to Rs. 200 | Replacement: Rs. 8,000–20,000
Heat increases tyre pressure — over-inflated tyres on hot roads are blowout risks. Check pressure in the morning (cold). Inspect for sidewall cracks, bulges, and tread depth (minimum 2mm legally, 4mm recommended).
High temperatures reduce oil viscosity — switch to a higher-grade oil if recommended for your engine and climate. Always use fresh oil going into summer.
Brake fluid absorbs moisture — in extreme heat this causes brake fade. Check fluid level and consider a flush if the fluid is dark (should be amber/clear).
Heat accelerates rubber degradation. If your timing belt is approaching its service interval, don't delay — a summer highway breakdown is dangerous and expensive.
Pakistan's pre-monsoon and monsoon season follows summer. Heat cracks rubber wiper blades — replace them now before the rains start.
Cost: Rs. 500–2,000 per pair
Fill the washer reservoir with proper fluid (not plain water which evaporates and leaves deposits). Add some screen wash concentrate.
Leather seats and steering wheels reach 70°C+ in the Pakistani sun. Quality covers prevent cracking and make entry bearable without waiting for AC to cool the interior.
Summer breakdowns are more dangerous. Keep in your boot: 1.5L water (for yourself AND the radiator), tyre inflator, jumper cables, and a flashlight.
